Do you have anyone in your family that has a birthday in the month of December or January?
My husband and I have four kids.
We had our two girls two years and two months apart and then we started praying for a little boy.
We went several years with no luck of getting pregnant and then 6 years later we got pregnant with our son.
The due date was the first week of January. I thought what a great way to start the new year.
However, when I had gone to one of my last doctor’s visits he asked if I would be interested in getting a tax deduction for that year by having him in December instead of January.
Not sure if he was wanting us to get a tax deduction or if he had a vacation scheduled but either way, a new baby boy and a tax deduction sounded good to us.
So an induction was scheduled for December 30th. Everything went as planned, we delivered our son and we were discharged from the hospital December 31st that evening so we could spend New Years Eve with our new baby boy at home and celebrate the new year.
I always thought it would’ve been fun for him to be born on December 31st because he would always be guaranteed a party, haha!
I always try to make his birthday special at the end of December and not to combine Christmas and his birthday.
My brother’s birthday is January 5th, and I always remember celebrating it also in January even though it was just days after Christmas.
So I kinda feel sorry for all of you, at the end of December and beginning of January birthday folks!
This experience taught me the importance of making birthdays stand out, even during the busiest seasons. And what better way to do that than celebrating in Hochatown, where cozy cabins and outdoor adventures make every birthday unforgettable?
If you need some help planning a birthday getaway in Hochatown I would start with booking a cabin!
Imagine celebrating in a spacious cabin with a roaring fireplace, a bubbling hot tub, and panoramic forest views. Whether you’re planning a small, intimate celebration or a large family gathering, Hochatown offers cabins to match your needs, complete with game rooms, bunk rooms for kids, and even pet-friendly amenities!
There are so many great choices!
There are cabins for just for two of you to celebrate or there are cabins that can accommodate the whole family! Bedrooms, bathrooms and bunk rooms that can let every RSVP have a place to sleep! If you want one with a hot tub that is easy to find, most cabins have them listed in their amenities. There are pet-friendly cabins that everyone can bring their pet babies from home. They would love the outdoor scents they can explore! Some cabins have spacious decks where you can watch ball games, grill out and play cornhole. So many choices, just start with booking your cabin!
Next for the birthday celebration I would get an itinerary together!
As I pull into Hochatown after driving a couple hours I like to get some pizza to go. I call ahead to Grateful Head Pizza, Mountain Fork Brewery or Pessa Italia to get a quick dinner start to the celebration getaway. A stop at The Market At Local 259 or Mountain Man Meat Market to get additional food supplies is a must as well!
Breakfast the next morning at the cabin can be relaxing!
Fixing some quick pancakes over the stove is always a hit with the kids, if you can get them to come in from playing outside. Assigning certain meals to some of your guests lets them get creative and fix new dishes you have never tried!
We have friends that fix a Dutch Baby, a German style pancake for us for breakfast! I have no idea how to fix those so having them treat us to their favorite breakfast is always delicious!
Sitting out on the deck or inside by the fireplace with a cup of coffee and just looking at the pine trees through the windows or the birds in the trees playing can be the finishing touches to your morning.
Gather everyone and make a plan for the rest of the day in Hochatown!
If you have littles the Rescue Center and Petting Zoo is a great stop, a drive through of the Beavers Bend Safari Park or heading to the Beavers Bend Depot and Trail Rides. For an active crowd The Maze of Hochatown, Bigfoot Speedway or if it’s too cold, go to the Escape Room. Having a multigenerational group, going to the Beavers Bend State Park and Nature Center, Beavers Bend Wildlife Museum or Gallery 259 for art has something interesting for all.
Grab lunch at The Hochahut, or Hochatown Saloon or Hochabow, where there are lunch, coffee and dessert choices all at one stop plus shopping! There are all kinds of lunch choices at Buffalo Grill, Stevens Gap or Papa Poblanos in Broken Bow. You can’t go wrong with any of those!
A trip to Hochatown isn’t complete without picking up a keepsake. From custom t-shirts at Hochatime to quirky finds at Janet’s Treasure Chest, these mementos will remind you of a birthday celebration like no other. Leaving with souvenirs reminds you of the fun birthday celebration trip! Hochatown Mountain Co has something for all ages to take home with them! And don’t forget to grab a bag of candy from the candy stores while you are at it!
Either dinner reservations for your birthday dinner at Abendigo’s, Shuck Me Hochatown or Beaver’s Bend Lookout Kitchen would be perfect birthday celebration spots. Or grilling out at the cabin with some steaks you have had marinating, some baked potatoes and a side of salad. Having the kids decorating a birthday cake would be fun for them and great for pictures when you get home reminiscing of your birthday!
So whether you’re celebrating a December or January birthday, Hochatown offers the perfect backdrop for creating cherished memories. Book your cabin, gather your loved ones, and make this birthday one for the books. Happy Birthday—and Happy 2025!
